A 25 strong crew which included members from Grenada Coast Guard, The Grenada Ports Authority and members from a US AID dive program carried out an underwater clean up from 8am – 4pm on the 17th September 2005. This voluntary clean up was open to the public and students from St. George’s University also assisted.

Collecting no less than 7,500lb / 3,410kg of trash from the bottom of the Carenage. Over 3,000 glass bottles were recorded and 34 sheets of galvanized roofing was removed which were strewn in the water after the passage of Hurricane Ivan in Sept 2004. A successful day for the team of helpers and a step closer to Grenada’s Carenage becoming an eco-friendly location.

There are only around 8,000 breeding females left in the world, but we were lucky enough to witness this remarkable event, just along the beach from the Devotion 2 Ocean dive shop. Back in July 2004, Devotion 2 Ocean’s staff found hatchling leatherbacks by the dive shop and helped them in the right direction. It’s nice to know that right on our doorstep the fascinating lives of these remarkable creatures begin.

New Wreck Dive - Hema 1 Hema 1 is a freighter located 3 miles off the south coast of Grenada. She sank on March 5th 2005 on her way back to Trinidad from Grenada having offloaded its cargo in St. Georges harbour. This German built vessell was an iner-island freighter registered originally in Kingstown, St. Vincent. Hema 1 is 50m/170ft long and she lies in 30m/100ft of water. She started taking on water in high seas on the Atlantic side of the Island and tried to turn around but the efforts were thwarted and she was abandoned. Here, the Grenada coast guard stepped in to rescue the crew members. Hema 1 joins The King Mitch and San Juan as another of Grenada's "must see" attractions for wreck thirsty divers!!
